Talent Development

Talent development is a key component of the educational concept “Ich bi parat!” at Sek eins Höfe. It complements regular classroom instruction and enables students to be supported on an academic, emotional, and social level.

Talent development takes place in blocks of one trimester each, spread throughout the school year. The grade-level teams for years 1, 2, and 3 plan their activities and content according to a predefined schedule.

Year 1

Trimester 1

Goal: Emotional, mental, and social well-being
Content: Self-organization (learning how to learn), personal development, and team building

Trimester 2

Goal: Learning about project phases and project organization
Content: Formulating research questions and/or SMART goals, strengths-based presentation techniques, WIN feedback

Trimester 3

Goal: Building and expanding knowledge, embracing challenges
Content: Foundation, interest-based, and challenge modules

Year 2

Trimester 1

Goal: Building and expanding knowledge, embracing challenges
Content: Specific subject-based offerings in English, French, STEM, programming, music, creative subjects, etc.

Trimester 2

Goal: Building and expanding knowledge, embracing challenges
Content: Preparation for the entrance examination to the cantonal academic high school (Gymnasium), career guidance activities

Trimester 3

Goal: Project planning and expanding knowledge
Content: Formulating research questions, investigating them, and presenting results. In bilingual classes, this is done in English.

Year 3

Trimester 1

Goal: Working reliably with others as a team player
Content: Planning, implementing, and evaluating group projects

Trimester 2

Goal: Applying learning strategies and taking responsibility for others
Content: Preparation for entrance examinations, creating course offerings, kick-off for the in-depth project

Trimester 3

Goal: Independently planning, carrying out, and evaluating a project
Content: In-depth project (usually completed individually)

Strength-Based Approach

Focusing on the talents, abilities, and potential of learners increases motivation and self-esteem. By having the opportunity to enroll in specific elective or optional courses, students are able to pursue their interests and abilities, prepare for planned educational pathways, and strengthen their self-confidence.
