Sek Profile A Bilingual

Sek Profil A bilingual gives high-achieving and motivated students the opportunity to further develop both their subject-specific knowledge and their English skills through partially bilingual instruction.

Like Sek Profil A, the Sek Profil A bilingual program offers comprehensive preparation for transition to vocational apprenticeships (with BMS), to the Gymnasium (where a bilingual Matura is possible), and to other secondary schools (such as FMS and HMS). Specific advanced courses in languages and in mathematics and technology are open to all high-achieving and motivated secondary school students.

The operation of bilingual classes is based on the legal framework of the Canton of Schwyz.

live in the Höfe district.
have been assigned to Sek Profile A and achieved good to very good results in German, Mathematics, English and French at primary school.
are able and willing to achieve strong academic results independently and with motivation.
enjoy the English language.

For students who speak English as their first or family language (“native speakers”), we recommend the standard Sek Profile A program.

How is teaching organized?

The curriculum content is based on Curriculum 21 of the Canton of Schwyz. The competencies to be achieved correspond to those of the standard Sek Profile A program. Through subjects that are partly taught in English, students acquire additional language skills.

Curriculum 21, the flexible allocation of lessons, and the educational concept “Ich bi parat!” enable individualized support for both subject-specific and transferable skills. Sek eins Höfe makes particular use of the flexibility offered by the revised lesson structure for the bilingual Sek Profile A program.

The subjects Mathematics, Geography, History and Social Studies (RZG: Spaces, Times, Societies) and Science and Technology are taught mainly in English. Other subjects, such as Music, Physical Education, Visual Arts, or an elective course, may also be partially taught in English.

For organizational reasons, the third year of the bilingual Profile A program is usually offered exclusively in Pfäffikon. Students from Riedmatt change locations for their third school year.

What requirements apply?

Parents or guardians register their child for the bilingual Sek program with Sek eins Höfe. In principle, all students who have been assigned to Sek Profile A may apply for the bilingual Sek Profile A program.

For successful completion of the bilingual Sek Profile A program, it is strongly recommended that students transfer from primary school to Sek eins Höfe with a grade of 5 in German, Mathematics, English, and French.

For students in the bilingual Sek Profile A program, the requirement to understand and apply learning content in various subjects in both German and English requires a high level of academic ability and commitment.

Students demonstrate strong subject-specific and transferable skills in order to remain in Profile A. Accordingly, they consistently achieve high evaluations across various assessment methods and settings. The professional judgment of homeroom and subject teachers forms the basis for decisions regarding the student’s educational pathway and, therefore, continued placement in the bilingual Sek Profile A program.

Which vocational training programs are available?

Students in the bilingual Profile A program have access to around 250 vocational training programs. They also have the opportunity to complete a vocational baccalaureate during or after their training.

Which academic pathways can students pursue?

Can students attend a trial class in the bilingual Sek Profile A program?

No, trial days are not offered. However, students can attend classes during the Open School Day. Between November and February, sixth-grade students at both Riedmatt Wollerau and Weid Pfäffikon schools can participate in four English-language workshops on various topics in the subject area of Science and Technology. Are you interested in the natural wonders and phenomena of our planet? Together with other 6th graders from the Höfe district, you’ll explore the fascination of the four elements, water, earth, fire, and air, both in the lab and outdoors. The language of the research is English. You don’t need to be fluent in English, but you should bring a sense of joy and a thirst for knowledge.
