Learning and Support Center

Learning Coaching is a voluntary, individualized service that helps students overcome learning challenges and experience greater academic success. Students receive practical guidance and strategies to improve the way they learn. Together with their learning coach, they regularly review their progress and set new learning goals.

Special education teachers provide individualized support for students with identified educational needs. Support measures are based on documented learning or school-related difficulties and may focus on academic or broader developmental skills. Parents or legal guardians are always consulted and must provide their consent before Inclusive Support is provided.

Students who move to the region from another canton or from abroad and whose first language is not German are offered German as a Second Language (GSL) classes. During the initial intensive phase, which lasts approximately 12 to 15 weeks, students receive 12 to 15 lessons of German instruction each week. At the same time, they are placed in a regular homeroom class according to their academic abilities. After the intensive phase, GSL instruction continues at a reduced level for approximately two additional years.

A calm and focused learning environment is essential for successful learning. If a student repeatedly disrupts the classroom, they may be asked to work in the school's Reflection Room ("Trainingsraum" at the Weid campus or "Chüelbox" at the Riedmatt campus). There, students work independently under supervision and complete a written reflection on their behavior. This reflection serves as the basis for a follow-up meeting with the teacher to discuss strategies for future success.

For students who display challenging behavior over an extended period or who require individualized support in developing personal and social competencies, Sek eins Höfe offers targeted educational programs through its School Social Pedagogy services. These include work placements outside the regular school setting, individualized learning sessions, intensive career guidance, and personal counseling. Together, these measures support students in their personal development and prepare them for the transition into vocational education and the world of work.

The School Island is a specialized support program for students with significant educational or behavioral needs. Depending on their individual circumstances, students may receive instruction either full-time or part-time in this supportive learning environment. The primary goal is to help students successfully reintegrate into their regular homeroom class. The program is highly flexible and can be adapted to meet each student's current needs.

Students from all academic profiles at Sek eins Höfe who are temporarily unable to participate successfully in regular classroom instruction because of significant behavioral challenges and/or severe disengagement from school may be assigned to the School Island by the school administration.

The School Island and the School Social Pedagogy team work closely together to develop and coordinate the most appropriate support plan for each student.
