Career Guidance
The process of finding a suitable career path is different for every student. With a proven roadmap and a wide range of activities and services, Sek eins Höfe supports students on their journey toward choosing the right career or an appropriate next educational pathway.
Berufswahl-Fahrplan
The career exploration process is designed to take place over three years. The career guidance roadmap takes into account the students’ personal development and the requirements of training companies.
Year 1
- Discovering one’s own personality, strengths, and interests
- Visit and consultations at the Career Information Center (BIZ) (alternatively during the start week in Year 2)
- Parent information evening at the Career Information Center (possibly at the beginning of Year 2)
- Youth Project LIFT (if needed)
- FOCUS events organized by the cantonal Career, Study and Educational Guidance Service
Year 2
- Creating a career guidance portfolio
- Practicing how to inquire by phone about a career exploration placement with a company’s HR representative
- Mandatory career exploration week for all students (November)
- Visiting career fairs
- Practicing job interviews
- Event “Career Pathways”
- Individual guidance sessions with career counselors (in-house or at the cantonal Career, Study and Educational Guidance Service)
- Searching for an apprenticeship position
- Youth Project LIFT (if needed)
- FOCUS events organized by the cantonal Career, Study and Educational Guidance Service
Year 3
- Searching for an apprenticeship position and signing an apprenticeship contract
- Entrance examination for the vocational baccalaureate (optional)
- Career choice coaching (if needed)
- STARTKLAR – For a successful transition into vocational training
- Registration for a bridge year program (if needed)
Career Choice Coaching
As a rule, career exploration takes place as part of career guidance classes in regular classes. If the career choice process is challenging for a student, individual career choice coaching at Sek eins Höfe can provide additional support.
Jugendprojekt LIFT
The Youth Project LIFT is a voluntary, school-related support program that gives motivated young people with challenging starting conditions the opportunity to gain their first work experience in companies in the school’s regional area during lower secondary education. Students work two to three hours per week during time outside regular classes (Wednesday afternoons). They carry out suitable tasks at the same company for three months, allowing them to gain insight into the world of work.
Students are prepared for their work placements by specially trained teachers, visited at their weekly workplaces, and supported through weekly coaching sessions.

Sek eins Höfe works closely with a range of organizations and partners to help every student find the most suitable pathway after lower secondary school.
Cantonal Career, Study and Educational Guidance Service
In Pfäffikon, students receive individual and professional support in exploring career options. Parents or guardians are welcome to accompany their child to guidance sessions.
go2future Career Fair
Sek eins Höfe is actively involved in the go2future association. Each year, the association organizes a career fair – alternating between Sek 1 March and Sek eins Höfe. A wide range of training companies from the Ausserschwyz/Upper Lake Zurich region use this opportunity to connect directly and easily with students and arrange career exploration placements. The go2future career fair is also open to parents or guardians.

STARTKLAR. – For a strong transition into vocational training
STARTKLAR. is aimed at students in Year 3 who have already signed an apprenticeship contract. During the final semester, directly before starting their apprenticeship, they have the opportunity to work regularly at their future training company. Participation in the program is voluntary. The duration and frequency of the collaboration are agreed upon in writing between the training company, the student, the parents or guardians, and the homeroom teacher. The work placements at the training company can be arranged flexibly and give future apprentices the opportunity to get to know key people at the company and become familiar with their future workplace while they are still in school.
