The Profile B is designed for pupils with normal cognitive ability. After completing three years of secondary (middle) school Profile B in the dual education system, they take up practical vocational training. What are the key characteristics of the secondary (middle) school Profile B?
In classes of up to 18, pupils are taught according to the cantonal curriculum. The teachers take the individual needs of their pupils into account and support them accordingly. The diversity of methods helps pupils to use their strengths to acquire knowledge and use learning strategies. Special education teachers also support young people in areas where they underperform. Pupils are introduced to interdisciplinary and job-related skills via differentiated tasks. The young people get to know the world of work in vocational courses and during trial apprenticeships. In project-related work, which culminates in in-depth work, pupils learn to work on and understand interdisciplinary topics in a holistic way.
Academic performance
Learners demonstrate sufficient subject-specific and interdisciplinary competences to remain in Profile B. Accordingly, they fulfil the requirements in various forms and occasions of assessment. The holistic assessment of the teachers forms the basis for the school career decision and thus the decision to remain in Profile B. A change to profile A or C is possible at certain points in the school year or at the end of the school year.
